A young man, a student of journalism, is sentenced to death by an Islamic court for downloading a report from the internet. The sentence is then upheld by the country’s rulers. This is Afghanistan – not in Taliban times but six years after “liberation” and under the democratic rule of the West’s ally Hamid Karzai.

In 2003, the United Nations Organization was tremendously dishonored when the UN “Security” Council (UNSC) declared the occupation of Iraq to be a Multinational Force supported by the UN (s/res/1511(2003)). The UNSC will soon consider re-authorization of the occupation.

Le Chaco, province du nord est de l’Argentine, fait l’objet de l’attention de certains médias en raison de la mort de dénutrition de plusieurs indigènes, morts utilisées avant les élections. Nous vous demandons de vous opposer aux gestes violents commis envers les manifestants et nous sommes en faveur de la réconciliation et de la mise en œuvre de politiques démocratiques en Birmanie. Nous vous tiendrons responsables pour toutes les violences commises contre les participants aux protestations.

After decades of military dictatorship, the people of Burma are rising – and they need our help.

If the world stands up for the protesters, the people will not be massacred (as was the case during the last mass protest in 1988).

Send a letter (on line) of protest condemning the decision of the Israeli government to begin withholding electricity, water and goods from the Gaza Strip. These actions are inhumane and illegal under international law.

In a Cabinet decision announced Tuesday, the Israeli government responded to ongoing rocket attacks from Hamas militants in Gaza into northern Israel by declaring all of Gaza a ‘hostile territory’. This opens the door to cutting off all passage into Gaza and to halting the supply of services on which Gaza depends. An Israeli government official said, “We will reduce the amount of megawattage we provide to the Strip, and Hamas will have to decide whether to provide electricity to hospitals or weapons lathes.”

U.S. Secretary of State, Ms. Condoleezza Rice, refused to condemn the Israeli move, despite her pronouncement that the U.S. “will not abandon the innocent Palestinians in Gaza, and indeed will make every effort to deal with their humanitarian needs.” Remind her that cutting the utilities to the whole civilian population in the Gaza Strip makes a mockery of her promise.

Remind Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, that these measures amount to collective punishment, and instead of making the citizens of southern Israel safer, will only increase the frequency of the firing of rockets from Gaza into Israel.

We hope all endorse, distribute widely, organize and act. Please reply to hanaalbayatygmail.com

None of the three women was permitted to see a lawyer. The trials to which they were subject are illegal under international law. All three are prisoners of war with protected rights under the Third Geneva Convention. Their execution would not only be illegal and summary, it would be utterly immoral. Civilization around the world reviles the death penalty while Iraq’s feudal leaders make a public spectacle of executions.

Aucune des trois femmes n’a eu la permission de voir un avocat. Elles ont subi des procès qui sont illégaux en vertu du droit international. Toutes trois sont des prisonnières de guerre dont les droits sont protégés en vertu de la Troisième Convention de Genève. Leur exécution ne serait pas seulement illégale et sommaire, elle serait totalement immorale. A travers le monde, la civilisation méprise la peine de mort pendant que les dirigeants féodaux de l’Irak présentent les exécutions comme un spectacle public.
