Israeli authorities must authorize access to the Gaza Strip !

The International Federation for Human Rights denounces the Israeli decision to deny its representatives access to Gaza.

May 22, a delegation from Quebec was blocked when they attempted to enter Gaza from the Israeli border; though they were invited by a UN agency. May 26, delegations of 66 people —mosty from Canada, but also from New York and Cairo— were able to enter Gaza from the Egyptian border! We have some great news to report!!! The day started out with a 3am call from one of our delegations in Al Arish saying that secret police had contacted them at 2pm to intimidate them and say they would not get into Gaza. We, in Cairo, told them to go on to the border and see what happens. [...]

GENEVA (AFP) – The World Health Organisation on Friday called on Israel to immediately lift an aid and fuel blockade of the Gaza Strip saying it was causing a “serious shortage of medicines and medical supplies.”

The WHO’s annual World Health Assembly taking place in Geneva this week passed a resolution demanding that Israel “facilitate the transit and entry of medicine and medical equipment to the occupied Palestinian territory.”

And it said it wanted Israel to reverse policies that had “led to the prevailing dire health conditions and severe food and fuel shortages in the Gaza Strip.”

Earlier this month, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called on Israel to end the blockade on aid and fuel to the 1.5 million inhabitants of the impoverished Gaza Strip.

Life in the enclave, he said, remains “extremely difficult” three months after the end of an Israeli offensive targeted at Gaza’s rulers, Islamic movement Hamas.

On May 21, 2007, Malalai Joya – the young MP dubbed “the bravest woman in Afghanistan” by the BBC – was unjustly suspended from the Afghan National Assembly. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper was in Afghanistan on that day and, two years later, has still yet to make any statement about Joya’s mistreatment.

“Canada’s participation in this war in Afghanistan has been justified with rhetoric about women’s rights, yet Harper and the Conservatives remained silent when Malalai Joya was ousted from her elected position and again did nothing meaningful when Karzai signed the anti-women provision which sanctioned rape in marriage,” said Parvin Ashrafi, a women’s rights activist with the Iranian Centre for Peace, Freedom and Social Justice and a member of Friends of Malalai Joya—Canada.

En tant que représentante élue pour Farah, Afghanistan, j’ajoute ma voix à celles qui condamnent le bombardement de l’OTAN qui a fauché la vie de plus de 150 civils dans ma province, plus tôt ce mois-ci. Ce dernier massacre permet au monde d’entrevoir les horreurs auxquelles notre peuple fait face.

Cependant, tel que je l’ai expliqué lors d’une conférence de presse le 11 mai à Kaboul, les autorités militaires étasuniennes ne veulent pas que vous voyez cette réalité. Comme d’habitude, elles ont tenté de minimiser le nombre de victimes civiles, mais l’information que j’ai obtenue confirme que 164 civils ont été tués dans ces bombardements. À la conférence de presse, un homme du village de Geranai, accablé de douleur, est venu expliquer qu’il avait perdu 20 membres de sa famille dans le massacre.

As an elected representative for Farah, Afghanistan, I add my voice to those condemning the NATO bombing that claimed over 150 civilian lives in my province earlier this month. This latest massacre offers the world a glimpse of the horrors faced by our people.

However, as I explained at a May 11 press conference in Kabul, the U.S. military authorities do not want you to see this reality. As usual, they have tried to downplay the number of civilian casualties, but I have information that as many as 164 civilians were killed in the bombings. One grief stricken man from the village of Geranai explained at the press conference that he had lost 20 members of his family in the massacre.

Opinion du Siriel-Média :  Ce lundi, même si lesdits « 30 talibans » étaient positionnés dans des maisons ou tout près, les 70 autres personnes massacrées démontrent un usage excessif et massif de bombardements sur un village.  Les forces étasuniennes ne changeront pas leur doctrine militaire de ci tôt, une approche qui nourrit la guerre, le chaos et la haine, et elles doivent donc quitter ce pays.

Le juge d’instruction espagnol Baltasar Garzon a ouvert mercredi une enquête préliminaire visant les «auteurs matériels» et «concepteurs» du camp de prisonniers américain de Guantanamo, selon un procès verbal reçu par l’AFP.

Extrait : « Il semble que les documents déclassifiés par l’administration américaine et mentionnés par les médias ont révélé ce qui n’était auparavant qu’un soupçon: l’existence d’un plan autorisé et systématique de tortures» à Guantanamo, relève le juge Garzon.
