To the Workers and All Peace Loving People of the World
April 29th, 2008
On this day of international labour solidarity we call on our fellow trade unionists and all those worldwide who have stood against war and occupation to increase support for our struggle for freedom from occupation – both the military and economic. (...)
Five years of invasion, war and occupation have brought nothing but death, destruction, misery and suffering to our people. In the name of our “liberation,” the invaders have destroyed our nation’s infrastructure, bombed our neighbourhoods, broken into our homes, traumatized our children, assaulted and arrested many of our family members and neighbours, permitted the looting of our national treasures, and turned nearly twenty percent of our people into refugees.

On March 28, 2008, Naomi Klein gave the keynote address at the event at Canada’s first ever Independent Canadian Jewish Conference, attended by over 100 Jews against the occupation of Palestine from over a dozen organizations in over 20 cities across Canada.
The video of her talk is now online and covers the upcoming 60th anniversary celebrations of the founding of Israel, the boycott/divestment/sanctions movement, and the significance of the growing Jewish anti-occupation movement in Canada. »»» |

Situation :
• blockade of Gaza imports/exports and of people’s right to move about.
— population: 1.36 million
[ soulignement ajouté ] | This Tuesday January 22nd, B. Lynn Pascoe, UN Under-Secretary- General for Political Affairs, strongly urged Israel to allow the “regular and unimpeded” delivery of fuel and other basic necessities.
“But these 2.2 million liters will only restore electricity to what it was in January. This means there are cuts lasting 8 to 10 hours each day in the center of Gaza and every two days in the rest of Gaza.”
B. Lynn Pascoe recalled that, in December, only 43.5% of food needs from commercial goods were insured.
[...] “over 150 rockets and attacks from mortars were launched against Israel par militants, wounding 11 Israelis and killing a citizen of Equator”...
“42 Palestiniens have been killed and 117 wounded by the Israeli army, who launched 8 ground incursions, 15 aerial strikes and 10 missile attacks last week. Amongst the dead were civilian Palestinians,” stated B. Lynn Pascoe.

Agence France Presse

Editors have a mantra, do not look back, move on, write what is current. But sometimes looking back is vital. Those who ignore even the recent past are doomed to understand nothing, sink deeper into quagmires – and bleat again : ‘Why do they hate us’ ?
Looking through material for the book that has been far too long in the making, I found a copy of a letter which I sent to a prominent (UK) Member of Parliament. It is dated November 1993 and clarifies for ever why the invaders were never going to be greeted with ‘sweets and flowers’.
Meridian Hotel, Baghdad, 4th November 1993.
As you know, when I was here in April/May 1992, I thought things could get no worse. Yet in July this year, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations note in a Report: ”...with deep regret”, all the: “pre-famine indicators being in place”. Further that an appreciable proportion of the population now had less calorific intake than the most famine stricken parts of Africa. That was July. This is apocalypse. This is an internationally sponsored genocide. :: read on >>
