[Themes: Canada & Quebec | Iraq | USA | •Crime vs Peace (invasion) | •Untruthful Propaganda | ::Justice & Human Rights:: ]
[ create a profile (account) to comment | Read more ]
August 6: The Lies Of Hiroshima Are The Lies Of Today (John Pilger)
[Themes:
August 6, 2008 It is the 63rd anniversary of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The US Dept. of Energy estimates the 5 year death toll from the bomb at Hiroshima alone to be over 200,000, the vast majority of whom were civilians. In the piece below, John Pilger readily debunks the myth that the bombing of Hiroshima was either needed or intended to end the war in the Pacific. This anniversary has a particular significance, coming as it does at a moment when Israel is intensifying its belligerent posturing towards Iran, culminating perhaps in Benny Morris’ recent threat / prediction in the New York Times of a nuclear attack. Pilger reminds us that we have seen this all before: the intensive disinformation campaign (in this case, a positive will to forget the International Atomic Energy Agency and US intelligence agencies’ reports that Iran does not pose a nuclear threat), and the campaign of racist vilification. – This introduction is from Judith Norman of www.jewishpeacenews.net

[Themes:
June 6, 2008, Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich, supported by Florida Congressman Robert Wexler, is calling for the impeachment of President Bush. The former presidential candidate and Ohio congressman accuses the president of misleading the American public into the Iraq war. The resolution contains thirty-five articles, including: Creating a secret propaganda campaign to manufacture a false cause for war against Iraq, providing immunity for criminal contractors in Iraq, imprisoning children, creating secret laws, and spying on American citizens without a court ordered warrant in violation of the law and the 4th amendment. The House voted to refer the matter to the House Judiciary Committee. May Day 2008 Statement from the Iraqi Labour Movement
[Themes: Iraq | USA | •Crime a. humanity | •Crime vs Peace (invasion) | •Democracy | •Imperialism & Neocon. ]
To the Workers and All Peace Loving People of the World On this day of international labour solidarity we call on our fellow trade unionists and all those worldwide who have stood against war and occupation to increase support for our struggle for freedom from occupation – both the military and economic. (...) Five years of invasion, war and occupation have brought nothing but death, destruction, misery and suffering to our people. In the name of our “liberation,” the invaders have destroyed our nation’s infrastructure, bombed our neighbourhoods, broken into our homes, traumatized our children, assaulted and arrested many of our family members and neighbours, permitted the looting of our national treasures, and turned nearly twenty percent of our people into refugees.
– Cyberjournal de Radio Canada International, 10 janvier 2008.[ create a profile (account) to comment ]
