Saddam: Let's now charge the accomplices (John Pilger)
Submitted by Siriel Admin on 2006 Nov 13 - 1:21pm

by John Pilger in the New Stateman, 13th November 2006
Pilger is a renowned journalist. He is known and respected for being of the rare few to dare mention truths.

In a show trial whose theatrical climax was clearly timed to promote George W Bush in the American midterm elections, Saddam Hussein was convicted and sentenced to hang. Drivel about “end of an era” and “a new start for Iraq” was promoted by the usual false moral accountants, who uttered not a word about bringing the tyrant’s accomplices to justice. Why are these accomplices not being charged with aiding and abetting crimes against humanity?

Five Myths That Sanction Israel's War Crimes
Submitted by Siriel Admin on 2006 Jul 26 - 11:18am

by Jonathan Cook, July 26, 2006
Antiwar.com

This week I had the pleasure to appear on American radio, on the Laura Ingraham show, pitted against David Horowitz, who most recently made his name under the banner of Campus Watch, leading McCarthyite witch-hunts against American professors who have the impertinence to suggest that maybe, just maybe, Arabs have minds and feelings like the rest of us.

It was a revealing experience, at least for a British journalist rarely exposed to the depths of ignorance and prejudice in the United States on Middle East matters well, apart from the regular whackos who fill my e-mail in-tray. But five minutes of listening to Horowitz speak, and the sympathy with which his arguments were greeted by Laura (“The Professors your book’s a great read, David”), left me a lot more frightened about the world’s future.

 Suprême terreur
Submitted by Mehr Licht on 2005 Jul 23 - 5:54pm

by Tom Krebsbach, Seattle Post-Intelligencer (Opinion, July 15, 2005)

More than two grueling years have passed since U.S. and coalition forces stormed into the sovereign nation of Iraq. Still there has been little discussion in this country about the legal standing of the invasion.

Perhaps that is because most Americans are reluctant to admit this inconvenient but certain fact: The United States/United Kingdom invasion of Iraq in 2003 was a war of aggression, a crime against the peace as defined by the Nuremberg Principles.

Note that four of the five permanent members of the United Nations ‘Security Council’ are members of the G8. Let us mostly notice that these permanent members of the ‘Security Council’ are the greatest purveyors of weaponry worldwide.

 Irak-Iraq: Crise humanitaire sous 'silence-média' - 'Media-silenced' Humanitarian Crisis
Submitted by Siriel Admin on 2004 Oct 29 - 8:30am

Iraq death toll ‘soared post-war’, BBC News (UK edition)...

Poor planning, air strikes by coalition forces and a “climate of violence” have led to more than 100,000 extra deaths in Iraq, scientists say. (...) [The Lancet] found the relative risk, the risk of deaths from any cause, was two-and-a-half times higher for Iraqi civilians after the 2003 invasion than in the preceding 15 months. That figure drops to one-and-a-half times higher if data from Falluja – the scene of repeated heavy fighting – is excluded.

Jeremy Laurance, Iraq faces soaring toll of deadly disease, The Independent (13 Oct. 2004, UK newspaper), writes:

Soaring rates of disease and a crippled health system are posing a new crisis for the people of Iraq, threatening to kill more than have died in the aftermath of the war. Deadly infections including typhoid and tuberculosis are rampaging through the country, according to the first official report into the state of health in the country.
